Yang Gang was born in Henan in 1946. In 1965, he graduated from the attached middle school of the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1978, he was admitted to the postgraduate class of the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He was transferred to Beijing Painting Academy in 1981. First-class national artist, member of China Artists Association. He has held solo exhibitions in Britain, Spain, Beijing and Hong Kong. His representative works include Return from Targeting, Sunset on a Long River, No Man (Series), Melody (Series), etc. He published "Yang Gang Sketch Collection", "Chinese Contemporary Artist Yang Gang Painting Biography", "Extremely Ancient and Extremely New: Yang Gang Painting Collection", "Contemporary Sketch Essence: Yang Gang Collection" and so on.
