Al-Kazi was born in 1939 in Pune, India. Her family was a large merchant family of Saudi-Kuwaiti origin, and her heritage has no doubt influenced the style and imagery of her compositions. The artist’s abstract works take form in both painting and printmaking, with a predominant interest in etching. Beginning as an oil painter, Al-Kazi completed a degree at London’s Central School of Art and Design, where she absorbed herself in the techniques and skills involved in printmaking. After her graduation in 1961, Al-Kazi worked from her studio in London, holding exhibitions of her paintings and etchings in Europe and the Middle East until the 1970s when she relocated to Ibiza, Spain. Her more recent work, from the early 2000s experiments with digital media. Since the 1960s, Al-Kazi’s prints and paintings have been collected by multiple international institutions, notably including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and MoMA in New York. Her work has also appeared in exhibitions across Europe, the Middle East and the United States, as well as being displayed with the acclaimed Iraqi artist Essam El Said in the inaugural exhibition of Sultan Gallery in Kuwait on March 21, 1969.
