Since the 1980s, Nuno Ramos has been building his oeuvre in different media -- sculpture, installation, drawing, video, film, prose and poetry - and conserving painting as source language. In this relief-painting, Ramos challenges pictorial surface and its limits-both physical and metaphorical--through the accumulation of such diverse materials as vaseline, paraffin, fabric, mirror, plastic, metal, resin, and paint that enable the artist to explore formal issues of contemporary art-making while also relating it to a Brazilian tradition of the baroque and excess.
