Xu Jiang was born in Fuzhou, Fujian Province in 1955. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of China Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. From 1988 to 1989, he went to the Department of Free Arts, Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts, West Germany. He is currently the president of the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts, vice chairman of the Chinese Artists Association and chairman of the Chinese Oil Painting Society. He has held personal exhibitions in West Germany, Hong Kong, Beijing and Hangzhou. His representative works include The Spring Festival, The Grand Chess Board and Black Watts and White Watts. He published "Chess, Paper, Art - Xu Jiang, Shi Hui Selected Works", "Oriental Kui", "Chinese Modern Art Assessment Series - Xu Jiang" and other picture albums and anthologies.
