The work of Tomasz Pietrzyk is realised in his own technique on a metal sheet. The pictorial field consists of two symmetrical planes and is inscribed in the shape of a square with the upper and lower edges evenly cut in zigzags. The sheet metal surface with a metallic grey colour is marked with parallel streaks plotted by hand in the way that imitates rhythmic creases on the surface of a folding screen, or a sort of partition wall.
The specificity of the work of Tomasz Pietrzyk consists of crossing the division between the artistic disciplines. There is an experience typical for the painting's uniqueness, the individuality of work expressing itself, inter alia, in its scale, but on the other hand, there is repetition of etched engravings, appropriate for graphical techniques. This creates, in a certain manner, new picture reception conditions, in which it is not (or rather not yet) the finished work, but its matrix. The result is a curious ambivalence: suspension between the state of completion – ultimate finale, and hardly a phase in the process of reproduction. The properties of sheet metal, diversification of its matt and gloss aspects, make it accept one more function, it becomes a screen reflecting light and initiating the complex game of reflections.
