Alfred Sisley, an Impressionist painter in the style of Corot, demonstrates the same delicacy, the same taste for harmony and the play of light and shade, and the same love of landscape. Sisley settled first in the Île-de-France region, in Louveciennes, Bougival or Marly, and later in Moret. His favorite subjects were the rivers Seine and Loing, their banks and towpaths, and the distant hills, and he always made the sky and the light important components of the landscape. A refined colorist, he was a master of nuance and a great draftsman. The rooflines, windows, and doors of his houses form a fine geometry in his paintings.
