Uplitkas (head adornments)

These uplitkas consist of three rows of multicolored beads, silver disc-shaped pieces, and a bell on the end.
The base is made of long white cotton threads onto which three rows of orange, black, and blue glass beads are strung. Most of the beads are irregularly shaped and close to spherical. Some of them are connected in groups of three or four. The black and blue beads have an “eye” ornament around their circumference. The three strands of the adornment are connected by small silver discs with cylindrical threads on both sides in three places. Leather straps and a bell are attached to the ends.
Uplitka is a traditional female adornment of Turkmen Teke tribe. The object was digitized as part of “The Treasury of the National Minorities” project, which is supported by the European Union under the House of Europe programme.
