Uppingham School was founded in 1584 by Robert Johnson, Archdeacon of Leicester. The first recorded cricket match at the school took place in 1815. A new pavilion was built in 1923 to designs by Sir Walter John Tapper and was listed Grade II in 2018 for its architectural and historical interest.
