Mehmet Gün was born in Istanbul in 1956. Between 1976-1983 he studied at Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where he was taught by Rudolf Hausner (b. 1914) and Anton Lehmden (b. 1929), both among the founders of the Vienna School of Fantastic Surrealism. Gün has developed his art in the contexts of music, literature, philosophy and history, creating works that seek a universal rather than local concept of art. In 1978 he was awarded the Vienna Academy of Fine Art's Füger Gold Prize.
