This work is a Western-style arrangement of a scene from the Japanese fairy tale "Urashima Taro". Yamamoto Hosui, who studied full-scale Western painting in France and returned to Japan, will present "Urashima" at the 7th exhibition of the Meiji Fine Arts Society, Japan's first Western-style painting organization, in the midst of the trend of excluding Western-style painting. This work attempts to widely publicize the charm of Western historical paintings, which depict the world of imagination as if they were actually seen, with a theme familiar to Japanese people.
