The urban costume of Ioannina has a waisted dress of gold-brocaded pink material, open over the chest, with a high upright collar. It has long open sleeves, either with straight edges or edged in the “serai kapaki” (a particular shape for the ends of the sleeves) manner, under which the sleeves of the silk chemise can be seen. The short-sleeved coat is made of crimson cotton velvet and trimmed with braid, gold ribbons and gold embroidery. The ensemble is completed by a long, off-white “bolia” (scarf) over the head, with multicoloured silk embroidery, warp fringes and little silk tassels in the colours of the embroidery.
