Utility Furniture in the best bedroom of a prefabricated US House in the grounds of the Tate Gallery, Bulinga Street, Millbank, City of Westminster, Greater London

The British Government set up the Utility Furniture Scheme in 1942. An advisory committee appointed the designer and craftsman Gordon Russell to oversee furniture production. The scheme was put in place to standardise the design and materials of new furniture during the Second World War.
