Trophy of Grant’s gazelle

Museum of Natural History of Venice

Museum of Natural History of Venice
Venice, Italy

Grant's gazelles live in the savannas and bushlands of East Africa, where the species is still very common thanks to the protection provided by national parks and reserves. Other gazelles, whose trophies are also in de Reali’s collection, have a much more limited distribution and are now at risk of extinction, threatened by illegal hunting and the loss of habitat due to droughts and overgrazing by domestic livestock. Adequate protection is also lacking, due especially to extreme political instability and frequency of civil and military conflicts in the residual areas of presence.
