Victory mail, known as v-mail, was a World War II system of placing letters to soldiers on microfilm in the U.S. and then reprinting them full size once they made it overseas. This prevented valuable space on ships from being overwhelmed by letters. Soldiers received over 500 million pieces of mail this way. Despite this large number, a majority of letters were still sent through the regular mail system.
Like other U.S. states and regions across the globe, Kansans have served and died in war. The Kansas Museum of History aims to remember them through what they left behind. To see more from our collection please visit: https://www.kshs.org/kansapedia/wars/14569
