Apron

The apron is an integral part of the indigenous dress of many different villages, where it is used for work or to go out of the house, as well as a decoration, if it is particularly elegant. Around the end of the 1980s some women even used to wear a specially decorated apron for their wedding. It is made of ikat (resist-dye) material with pleats at the waist. The aprons can be simple or decorated whit “soutage,” (cords) or embroidery, as in the sample on exhibit. The most popular embroidered designs are of flowers and birds, particularly doves.
