The hedgerow is an anti-stage and anti-bunker that proposes another structure altogether, an alternative space for socialisation and collective integration. Against the audience/stage dichotomy, the hedgerow breaks with the segmentary structure that separates author, artist, actor, audience. there is no representation here, only action and integration. Like the bunker, the hedged space affords protection; but here the protection is organic, mobile, permeable, aggregating, multiplying and disguised as shrubs and bushes. The hedgerow creates a provisional buffer between the public and private, the particular and the collective. In this sense, it is more similar to certain tribal structures, such as the oca (communal hut).
