Wolmark's splendid and imposing portrait depicts Mrs. Herbert Cohen, who was introduced to the young Isaac Rosenberg, after his chance encounter with painter Lily Delissa Joseph at the National Gallery, and co-funded his first year of tuition at the Slade School of Fine Art.
