St. Jerome in His Study

In Dürer’s engraving Saint Jerome can be seen hard at work, presumably translating the bible into Latin. The lion resting in the workspace is a symbol typically associated with Jerome, as he is reputed to have tamed a lion by removing a thorn from its paw.
