This ceramic fragment is of a head from a female figurine. The fragment is an example of a "Venus" of Valdivia piece. This culture made many female figurines representing unique individuals. The face has a set of eyes, eyebrows, and an oval mouth. Half of the hair or headdress is smooth and the other half has been deliberately scratched in a decorative pattern.
