Varget Family Gardens and Country House, West of the City Walls

An exemplary view of Nuremberg's highly developed horticultural tradition. The entire city was almost surrounded by gardens, some of which served as a setting for aristocratic mansions. As industrialization and a burgeoning population intensified the city's need for space in the 19th century, these gardens were built over. Only a few Baroque gardens have been reconstructed in the St. Johannis district.
