Vase with birds and flowers, Izushi ware

More than ten different types of birds of various sizes (including ducks, wagtails, and sparrows) frolicking by the waterside are depicted in colorful, vibrant overglaze decoration. Such large, gorgeous works were made at kilns around Japan for exportation to the west.
