These two exquisite vases in the collection are in a shape known as Tianqiuping or "celestial sphere." Their large, rounded bodies provide a wonderful canvas for the naturalistic painting that curves freely around them, rather than in a rigid, decorative pattern. You can almost hear the rustle of the delicately painted leaves. The peaches depicted are a symbol of longevity and good fortune, and nine peaches in particular reference long life.
