Veiled Female Statue

Baths of Diocletian

Baths of Diocletian
Roma, Italy

The small decorative statue is inspired by a model frequently used to represent Muses, very common in the early Hellenistic age. In the Roman period the same model was adapted to represent the ideal of honesty and piety. This statue is outstanding for the remainings of the original colours, particularly the purple stripe lining the cloak. 1st-2nd century AD.
