Bologna, Italy

Plaster cast from an original depicting marble Aphrodite from the 2nd century BC preserved in the Louvre Museum. The original discovered in 1820 on the island of Milo, was bought on behalf of the French Ambassador to Constantinople in 1821 and offered to Louis XVIII. The work, found in two blocks, was reassembled and then rearranged in 1871. A cast was placed in the Berlin Academy since 1822 and there are numerous copies circulated in the academies and made with the use of pantograph. Even the cast of Bologna would be twentieth century.
