The stone of which the Venus is made: oolite
The name means „egg stone“ and derives from the Greek word for egg. Oolite is a sedimentary rock deposited in marine environment as well as in freshwater milieu. At present, new research based on micro-CT analyses is in progress in order to investigate the origin of the raw material of the Venus of Willendorf.
