Appropriate clothes and especially safety shoes are extremely important in many professions. This occupational safety poster from the 1960s playfully integrates cultural symbols: the hanged man, who stands for guilt; the owl, that stands for wisdom and security. The owl, however, can also be read as a precursor of death.
