This illustration was inspired by Ernie Barnes iconic painting "Sugar Shack". In this piece Justin Richburg shows iconic characters from Vermeer paintings interacting with cultural icons from today. "The Geographer" listening-in to a deep conversation between Lebron James & Collin Kaepenick, 'The Milk Maid' is pouring Ed Sheeran a drink, 'The Painter' & his subject are taking pictures with Kim Kardashian & Kylie Jenner, and the 'Girl with the Pearl Earring' is disturbed by Kanye West.

Vermeer was known for his use of light & shadows. Generally many of his paintings have light illuminating his pieces from the left side. Kanye West, standing in the middle of the composition, casts a shadow on the right side of the image. This illumination shines over Vermeer's characters. Justin Richburg's use of shadow is designed to show the details and accentuate the strengths of Vermeer's art. The illustration is also in the style of an older photo with the stylistic use of grain and fingerprints.

A list of cultural icons shown includes: Kanye West, Post Malone, Mac Miller, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Ellen Degeneres, Pharrell, Tarana Burke, EdSheeran, XXXtentacion, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Deray Mckesson, Lebron James, Colin Kaepernick.

Paintings by Vermeer that are referenced include: 'The Girl With The Pearl Earring,' 'The Art of Painting,' 'The Milkmaid,' and 'The Geographer.'
