Ignacy Bulla’s Vertical Landscape is distinguished by a high degree of deformation in the way the topic is approached. The artist crossed the line of abstraction, making it impossible for a viewer to easily recognize particular representational motifs. The composition is dominated by rich, different in value, colour spots: similar to the rectangle blue form at the bottom of the frame, a band of red in the upper part, and the different shades of green stripes appearing as a kind of background. Applied in expressive gestures, textural bars of colour build vague, unexplored, completely autonomous space. [N. Cieślak]
