This vessel exemplifies the ceramic style of several Gur-speaking Lobi peoples. Lobi ceramic vessels are particularly refined and elegant due to an economy of decoration and simplicity of form. Vessel shapes are near-perfect spheres, bisected at the shoulder or belly into contrasting textured and glossy surfaces. Incised arching lines complement the rounded shape of the vessel. Potters decorate vessels with motifs that they also incorporate into other art forms, such as archictecture.
