Vetch Field was the home of Swansea Town (later Swansea City) from the club's formation in 1912 until 2005. From a field used to grow vetch, the site became a recreation ground with running tracks before gradual transformation into a football ground that hosted First Division and international matches. This view from 1929 shows the narrow South Stand, built for the club's second season, opposite which is the open North Bank terrace. Nearest the camera is the angular, double-decker West Stand, which had opened in 1927. The triangular bank of terrace at the far end of the ground, the East End, was redeveloped as the East Stand as late as 1981.
