Draft Resisters' Union Movement The purpose of this union is resistence to the draft for the Vietnam war. We join together in a union in order to support and strengthen, encourage and extend resistence to that draft. Resistence to the draft includes 1) actions to make one "unacceptable" to the military (medically, psychiatrically, politically); 2) conscientious objection; 3) legal challenges to induction, the whole selective service system, and the war in Vietnam; 4) fleeing the country and/or avoiding its legal jurisdiction; 5) any other actions which the union may deem suitable. Any individual member is guaranteed of all possible protection and support by the union both for resisting the draft and advocating such resistence. Such protection and support includes legal aid, protest demonstrations, political action and other appropriate collective measures. Each individual member commits himself 1) to the financial support of the union through dues and the raising of additional funds, 2) to participate in demonstrations and any other political and legal actions which are required, 3) to educate himself and others about the meaning of the draft and how to resist it, 4) to devote time and energy to organize and extend the draft resistence union movement. Decision making power, including the election of officers, shall be exercised by a democratic vote of all members of the union (present at a duly publicized meeting). Membership entails both signed and actual commitment to the above purposes rights and obligations. Members should recognize that the government considers resistence and advocacy of resistence to the draft illegal and punishable by law.
