In addition to his landmark work as a hip hop artist, Dr. Dre (born Andre Young) is a record producer, founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment, co-founder and former president of Death Row Records. Along with 2022 Inductee Jimmy Iovine, Dre is also the co-founder of Beats Electronics, a hugely successful line of headphones and speakers. The 2017 docuseries The Defiant Ones examined the partnership between Dre and Iovine. “I don’t remember not having hustle,” Dre recalled. “I came from a place where you had to go out and do your thing if you wanted to have nice things. It was never going to come to you; you had to go out and fight for it. [Before I met Iovine], I had to figure it out myself. Teach myself how to create, be a DJ, how to engineer, and so on.” Dr. Dre was inducted into the Rock Hall as a member of N.W.A in 2016.
