The OUYA is an Android-based microconsole created by Julie Uhrman, Yves Béhar, and Muffi Ghadiali, and released in 2013. The console was funded entirely by Kickstarter and raised $8.5 million, one of the highest amounts of the time. The OUYA accessed a propriety store that sold games and apps designed for the console, the majority of which targeted the causal gaming market. It was also compatible with streaming services such as Twtch and TuneIn. As all consoles double as development kits, any user could developer a game without needing to put forth money for licensing. Despite the popularity of the Kickstarter, OUYA sales were very low, and the company was sold to Razer Inc., which halted the production of consoles in 2015. Razer temporarily provided support for existing users, but it ceased services and closed the OUYA store in 2019.
