Video game:Nintendo Wii Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil

The Wii is Nintendo's fifth home game console and the direct successor to the GameCube. It was released in 2006 and is considered a "seventh generation" console, competing against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3. Like its predecessor, the GameCube, it tended to skew to a younger audience. However, there were several entries that catered to an older demographic. Two games that fit this category are the Nintendo exclusive Resident Evil remake and Resident Evil Zero. Both were originally released on the GameCube before being ported to the Wii in 2009. Released on the Wii as Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil and Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil Zero, these two entries enabled new audiences to discover the illustrious franchise. The original Resident Evil centers on Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, members of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service), as they investigate a series of grizzly murders in the Arklay Mountains, on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Players can choose to complete the journey as either Chris or Jill, with each character having unique aspects to their individual games, such as Chris being the only one to interact with the young medic Rebecca Chambers, while Jill carries a lock pick and is assisted by S.T.A.R.S. veteran Barry Burton. Resident Evil introduced a unique saving system, where players entered "save rooms" and used ink ribbons to save their game on a typewriter. It also used tank controls, which let the character pivot when pressing toward the left or right, or in the direction the character faced when pushing up. The remake included vastly improved graphics, new cutscenes and more scares. The Resident Evil Archives games introduced the series to a wider range of players, while revealing that Nintendo had not forgotten about mature gamers.
