One of the original music and rhythm games, Dance Dance Revolution, also known as DDR, is a longstanding and well loved franchise from Konami. Beginning as an arcade game in 1998, the series has made its way to just about every console over the generations. DDR has a very simple, and very recognizable, gameplay style. The player stands on a platform or mat with four directional arrows and must step on them in time, following on-screen prompts of scrolling arrows. With this simple gameplay style, DDR appeals to a wide audience, and is very easy for beginners to pick up. The game can also be challenging for veteran players as well since the difficulty level can be changed at will. The difficulty also depends on the song chosen, with the music catalog featuring original music as well as popular hits.
Dance Dance Revolution is one of the games that kickstarted the rhythm game craze, with dozens of editions over the series history. DDR has inspired many other similar rhythm games, including In The Groove and Pump It Up. DDR and many of the games it inspired can still be found in arcades today.
