Video game:Silent Hill 3

The Sony PlayStation 2 is the best-selling video game console of all time, with over 100 million units sold worldwide. The PS2 (as it is commonly known) had a broader age-range appeal than its main rivals, the Nintendo GameCube and the Microsoft Xbox. Released in 2000, the PS2 was backwards-compatible with Sony's previous-generation console, the PlayStation, but featured better graphics and more processing speed. Silent Hill 3 is one game that accurately showcased the power the PS2 possessed. Japanese developer Konami released this survival horror title in 2003, and featured a memorable soundtrack provided by composer Akira Yamaoka. The survival horror genre is known for evoking terror and helplessness in the player as a result of the situations in which the character is placed. Silent Hill 3 functions as a direct sequel to an original PlayStation game and delivers chills in ways that few games can. The first game centered on a man named Harry Mason, who tries to save his daughter Cheryl from the mysterious town of Silent Hill. Silent Hill 3 features Heather Mason, the reincarnation of Cheryl, as she embarks on a quest in the fog-enshrouded Silent Hill in order to uncover the truth behind her past. The game uses tank controls -- which lets the character pivot when pressing toward the left or right, or in the direction the character is facing when pushing up -- and odd camera angles to accentuate the dismal atmosphere that pervades the game. It is also significant for containing the Fog World and the Otherworld. The former is a realm that looks like the real town would if it were not shrouded by fog, while the latter is a dangerous and nightmarish alternate dimension. Silent Hill 3 is regarded by many as one of the finest entries in the survival horror genre, and has sold nearly one million copies worldwide.
