Developed by BioWare and published by EA Games and LucasArts, this massively multiplayer online role-playing game was one of the most highly anticipated games of 2011. The game takes place approximately 3,500 years before the events of the film, and 300 years after BioWare's previous Knights of the Old Republic games.

Players begin by selecting between the Republic and Sith factions, each containing four mirror classes: Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior, Jedi Consular/Sith Inquisitor, Trooper/Imperial Agent and Smuggler/Bounty Hunter. Players can then choose from among nine species, though some are restricted to certain factions and classes. Physical customization of the characters is very extensive, and includes such details as tattoos and scars along with standard hair, eye and facial choices. Despite initially choosing between the Sith and the Republic, players gain dark and light side points throughout the game that are not restricted to their original faction. Thus, a Jedi may choose to follow the dark side while a Sith may turn to the light.

Gameplay begins on initial class-based worlds until reaching level 10. From there, players are given access to their own spaceship and may travel the galaxy at will, generally changing planets ever four to six levels. A personal ship also allows the opportunity for space combat missions. Detailed customization of a character's abilities is available via a sub-class, chosen at level 10, which allows for new ways of fighting and healing. Players are also given multiple companions throughout the game, which can fight alongside the player, perform hunting and crafting missions, and sell unwanted merchandise.

As with similar MMOs, players choose between fighting solo, joining groups, or engaging in Player vs. Player scenarios. The game also includes raid-like activities where large groups of players battle high level monsters for rare gear and wepons.
