Released in 2001, Dark Age of Camelot is a medieval fantasy massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMOPRPG) that loosely follows a mix of Arthurian, Celtic, and Norse folklore and takes place after the death of Camelot's King Arthur. Players choose between three realms - Albion, Hibernia, and Midgard - which constantly battle one another for control of Arthur's realm. The game performed better than anticipated, with Mythic Entertainment predicting 30,000 players at launch and the game selling more than 51,000 units within the first four days. Its popularity led Mythic to release seven expansions between 2002 and 2007, all of which are now available as free downloads.
