The leading opera house in Europe. It was opened in 1869 as the royal opera house with "Don Giovanni" by Mozart as its first performance. During World War II it was destroyed by bombing and took 10 years to reconstruct. It reopened with "Fidelio" conducted by Bohm in November, 1955. Mahler, R・Strauss, Bohm, Karajan, Maazel, etc were all installed as general managers. Also, for many decades, the opera house has been the venue of the renowned Vienna Opera Ball.

  • 作品解説 / Object Note (Japanese): ヨーロッパ屈指の歌劇場。1869年宮廷歌劇場としてモーツァルトの「ドン・ジョヴァンニ」上演で開場、1918年から現称となりました。第二次世界大戦で爆撃を受け崩壊したが、10年がかりで再建され1955年11月、ベーム指揮の「フィデリオ」上演で再開。総監督にマーラー、R・シュトラウス、ベーム、カラヤン、マゼールなどが就任してきました。舞踏会シーズンの頂点を極める「オペラ座舞踏会」の会場でもあります。
