This pinewood refrigerator is from around 1935. The 140 litre cooling compartment is coated with zinc and has a hinged door. The refrigerant is ice (frozen water), which is stored in a 40-litre zinc tub beside the cooling compartment. As it melts, the ice draws heat from the zinc partition wall of the cooling compartment. The water (melting ice) is collected below the ice compartment in a three-litre zinc water reservoir with copper drain valve.
