A gold fragment from a once-fine brooch, with elaborate cloisonné cells once containing garnet inlays. One side of the triangular fragment is formed by the beaded rim and another looks like it was torn off the original object. The third side was cut in antiquity.

  • Provenance: This group of objects known as 'The West Yorkshire Hoard' was discovered by a metal detectorist in two groups (2008 T553 and 2009 T221) in the Leeds area of West Yorkshire. The finds were reported to the Portable Antiquities Scheme and qualified as Treasure, so were sent to The British Museum. The objects were on loan from DCMS in Leeds City Museum from 2nd November 2011, and were officially released to Leeds Museums and Galleries on 13th January 2012.
