Hong Kong, Hong Kong

During the 1800s, foreign merchants in Canton were not allowed to live in the city but were instead granted a narrow strip of land on the bank of the Pearl River outside the city walls from which to conduct business in warehouses and offices (Hongs). This view from the inside the American Hong is unusual since most depictions of the Canton factories are from the perspective of a visitor looking at the enclave from a distance.
