  • More Information: The picture was taken in 1917, just after the village's last priest moved away. The rectory is one of Sweden's oldest preserved rectories with its old structure preserved. The house is from the mid-1700s and the other buildings in the photograph are from 1748 to around 1820. The farm is surrounded by buildings, forming two enclosed areas, the farmhouse and the cattle byre. The farmhouse is located next to the house, with storage sheds and the byre is surrounded by a cowshed, stable and barn. The two areas are divided by a building with sheds and gated sheds facing the farmhouse (the building in the middle of the picture). In front of the house, furthest back in the picture, an ornamental tree can be seen growing. The garden is not visible in the picture but is behind the house. In the centre of the photograph can be seen the handle that was used to draw water from the pump located in the cattle byre. The roofs are thatched with straw, except the house, which has a tiled roof. To the left of the house, the roofs of the sheds where they kept the 'tithe' can be glimpsed. This was a tax that everyone in the village was required by law to give to the priest as payment for his services in the parish. The tallest building on the left was the farm's stables with room for five horses in stalls. The building in front is the feed barn and cowshed. In 1929, the Nordiska museet Foundation received the farm as a gift from Härkeberga hembygdsgille (the Härkeberga Guild). Since then, Nordiska museet has kept the farm open to the public to show how a fine and well-preserved example of a Swedish rectory from the 1600s onwards may have looked.
