The Sejm - Polish Parliament

In the upper part - a panorama of Piotrków within the old city walls, some buildings outside the walls, among others: Bernardine and Franciscan monasteries, the castle - a tower extended by King Sigismund I. Since 1347, general gatherings and general sejms were held in Piotrków, particularly numerous in the second half of the 15th century. Starting from the reign of Jan Olbracht, it was the place of election of kings of the Jagiellonian dynasty. Since then, the place of gathering of the majority of the crown sejms until 1567. Sejms gathered in wooden buildings standing near the castle. In the lower part - the castle in Janowiec, below the settlement in Janowiec, in the distance, on the other side of the Vistula, Kazimierz Dolny. The construction of the castle in Janowiec was started by Mikołaj Firlej (d. 1526), Voivode of Lublin (1507-1514) and Sandomierz (from 1514), Grand Hetman of the Crown (1515-1526), Castellan of Cracow (from 1520).
