In this early painting of the Mornington Peninsula township of Sorrento, viewed from the back beach, Ocean Beach Road is visible as it winds across to the bay. The large building on the left is the Hotel Sorrento, built in 1871, with the Hotel Continental to the right, built in 1875. Arthur's Seat and Mount Martha are on the right, and there are a number of sailing ships and a steam ferry visible.
