Seville, and later Cádiz, reaped the rewards sown by trade with the Americas, facilitated by the House of Trade, growing as cities all the while. This engraving by the Flemish artist Joris Hoefnagel and the engraver Franz Hogenberg, for the work Civitates Orbis Terrarum (Cities of the World), shows a view of the city of Seville from the river's western shore. It depicts a city fully immersed in its trade with the Americas, with endless ships moored downstream in its inland port, beyond the pontoon bridge connecting it with the suburb of Triana. The House of Trade with the Indies can be clearly seen next to the striking Giralda tower.
