Alfred Nickisch was a painter known for the landscapes of the Karkonosze Mountains area. He was very devoted to both these mountains and to painting. Together with his friends, painters Otto Fischer and Heinrich Tüpke, he organized winter plein-airs, which took place in extremely difficult conditions. Nickisch's paintings were created in nature, they were painted with sweeping brush strokes and saturated colors. This painting shows a panorama with Szrenica Mountain, which was a frequent motif in the artist's work. The mountain was captured in early spring, during the thaw - the painter's favorite season.
