The temple of Ramesses III, known in modern times as the Ramesseum, is located in the West Bank of the Nile in Luxor and is probably best known as the source of inscribed reliefs depicting the advent and defeat of the Sea Peoples during the reign of Ramesses III. The temple was called the “Mansion of Millions of Years of King Usermare-Maiamun ‘United with Eternity in the Estate of Amun on the West of Thebes.’ ” The temple closely resembles the nearby mortuary temple of Ramesses II (the Ramesseum).
