There is an underground passage from the Palace basement to the Silver Lake bank, and its exit is arranged as a grotto clad with stone. Due to the unique acoustic properties of the passage the echo here can repeat up to 4 syllables. This feature gave the name to the grotto. Next to the Echo Grotto there used to be a small pier for boats
