Uffizi Gallery
Florence, Italy

The canvas came to the Uffizi Gallery in 1798. The painting depicts the Grand Canal seen from Palazzo Balbi looking toward the Ponte Rialto. This view, highly popular among the collectors of the period, is repeated also in other paintings in which there are only a few modifications regarding the boats depicted in the foreground as well as a different rendering of the atmospheric light.
